The best thing about being a Superspy is the GADGETS! There are so many to talk about but here are a few Max has used so far to complete her missions. The Time and Space Machine: Max’s Uncle Ben and his brother Francis invented this one. It is a compact device that will transport a person through time and space in a matter of seconds. When Max and Linden need to be at Spyforce in a hurry, they use the Machine and can travel from Australia to London in just under fifteen seconds, which means they don’t have to deal with any nasty jetlag. Palm Computer: The essential gadget for all Spyforce personnel. It is the most secure way of contacting other agents. It is fingerprint sensitive and will only operate with the authorized owner. It has a built in locator so you can find anyone or anything you need and it also has the Spyforce archives where you can access all the previous missions and all the active and non-active agents. Truth Gum: When offered to bad guys they are forced to tell you the truth Immobilising Perfumes: When sprayed, renders a person immobile and when they wake they remember nothing. Video Watch: It’s a tape recorder, camera (which takes photos in total darkness) and a watch...great for spying on people’s conversations or record people in your room while you are away. The watch is so small that even under close scrutiny it still looks like a simple watch but it is capable of transmitting messages across the world from almost any location with perfect clarity. Freeze Ray: This freezes villains in their tracks. It sends out a jagged bright silver beam which cuts through the air like a lightening strike. It freezes your villain to the spot but only for half an hour, so make sure you are very far away from them by the time they thaw out. Personal Flying Device (PFD): Just by pulling out the lever on your otherwise humble looking backpack, you will have the fastest Personal Flying Device known to exist. It also stands for Personal Flotation Device which it will do if you happen to make a watery landing. The Abseiler: A small device that fits in your pocket and has a rope coiled inside. The rope has Venus Flytrap fibres which make it extremely gripping. Just aim the abseiler at the object you wish to hook your rope to and throw. It will judge the distance it has to go and will hook around the object with a force that is immoveable. (It has been made with Venus Flytrap fibres in the Spyforce Plantorium) Once you’re done press the release button and the hooked substance in the rope that allows it to latch on releases and the rope slips back into the Abseiler. Coloured Fart-Gas Bomb: Not always a must but very fun to use on really annoying bad guys….all in the line of duty, of course. Slimer: Again, very fun but also very useful. It coats bad guys in a slime that makes them feel like they’re walking through jelly…only this is a chewing gum-like jelly. Have you ever had gum stuck in your hair? Well, this is worse. Silencio: This is a small device that makes a person silent. It takes time to wear off, but it will. Good if you have particularly annoying bad guys who just won’t be quiet. Neuro Memory Atomiser: A small red prism that rearranges the atoms in the part of the brain that controls memory, enabling Spyforce to erase certain memories without affecting others. Good for when mothers have wandered accidentally into a mission and after you’ve rescued them you need them to forget you’re a spy and not just a regular kid. Truth Beans: They look like jelly beans and come in over 50 different flavours which force the eater to tell the truth. Like gum, but not everyone likes gum. Danger Meter: This is a small device you wear inside your clothes so that you can feel its warning vibrations as danger comes near. The more dangerous the situation, the harder the vibrations. Invisibility Cream: A cream made in the Plantorium and first pioneered by Irene, the chef of Spyforce. All you need to do is rub it on and you will become instantly invisible. Anti-Invisibilty Cream: If you want your loved ones to see you again after you have used the Invisibility Cream, then you’ll need this. Remote Hauling Infra-Nice Operator (RHINO): Is a circular metallic disc that moves objects from a distance and works just like a remote control for your tele. Just point the channelling beam at the object you’d like to move and control the movement with a miniature joystick. Sneeze Powder: Yes, as it says, simply throw the powder at your dastardly evil foe and they will be unable to stop sneezing. Again, a fun one to use when you have to and the bad guys and girls really hate it. Flea-Powered Trainers with Hover and Flipper Capability: Some very clever scientists from Australia discovered that fleas can jump up to one hundred times their height because of a protein in their bodies called resilin. When injected into the rubber souls of these trainers, it allows the wearer to jump up to 100 times their height. A tiny generator releases strong jets of air to soften the landings. Laser: What agent would be complete without a laser. It cuts, it dices, it burns and it’s very good for situations where you need a good breakout. Stinkbomb: Yipee! I always get excited about this one. Like the sneeze powder, if you need to get the bad guys or gals off your case for a bit, just put on your mask, hurl a stink bomb at them and watch them squirm…but don’t watch for too long, you have to get out of there. Vibratron 5000: Spyforce excelled themselves when they invented this one. The Vibratron is a highly intelligent security system where specially sensitised tiles read the vibrations of a person who is standing on them. It feels funny at first, like a fizz frenzy all over your body. Fun and effective. Wall of Goodness: Something Max has very little success entering through, the Wall of Goodness. Lollypops: These generally have no gadget value but are great to have in your spy pack when things get tense and you need a sugar rush. Made from all natural ingredients and real fruit juice, of course. Shush Zone: A small metal globe that lights up like a sparkler as it creates a glowing green curve that acts as a restrictive sound field. Perfect for talking about top secret information you don’t want others to know. Inflatable Foldaway Vehicles : At first these small rubbery cubes look very innocent, but give them a shake and throw them in the air and they inflate into fully formed vehicles before they hit the ground. The Felani is for your more stylish encounters and is modelled on the Ferrari. The Aqua Buggy is for expert manouevering on land and water and the Heliocraft is perfect for flying in and out of confined spaces. Knockout Spray: Another device good for getting rid of bad guys or the ones who talk too much. One squirt will stop anyone in your path. Hypnotron: Is a device that allows you to lock someone away in an hypnotic state but be careful, it wears off after twenty minutes. While hynotised, a person will answer any question you ask of them or do anything you say. Can also be very funny. Super Grip Gloves: These are great for when you find yourself on top of a high speed train or gripping to the side of a very tall mountain or building. You know, usual spy stuff. Sleek Machine: Although he loves all the vehicles he takes care of, this is Sleek’s favourite. It is a cross between a motor bike and a hovercraft and moves at an oscillation level that makes it and objects that touch it undetectable to the human eye, unless you wear these special goggles. All in all, a trip to the Spyforce lab and a rummage through all the inventions can be a very fun day out. I highly recommend it! Text © Deborah Abela 2005 | Illustrations © Jobi Murphy |
